Do I have to do English, maths and science?
Yes. They are core subjects. The entry into English Literature, triple or combined science and tier of paper in maths will be decided by the appropriate teacher. Please contact the Head of Faculty if you have any questions about core subjects.
Do I have to do modern studies?
Yes. It is compulsory that pupils study RE and citizenship.
Do I have to pick PE to play sport?
No. All pupils have core PE to support a healthy active lifestyle. You play sport and can represent a school team.
Why are subjects put in option pools?
Option pools are created with 4 subjects in each to allow these subjects to fit into a school timetable. The subjects in one option pool are all taught at the same time on the timetable.
Can I pick 2 subjects from the same pool?
No. This is because they are taught at the same time on the timetable.
Do I have to pick a subject from a pool?
Yes. Otherwise a pupil would be one subject short in their curriculum.
Which choice of 5 subjects must be included in my options?
Pupils should study at least one EBacc subject – French, German, Geography, History or Computer Science.
How many vocational subjects can I pick?
No more than two.
How are vocational subjects different from GCSEs?
Vocational subjects are more practical. They often use coursework. GCSEs are more likely to use exams to award grades.
What is the Ebacc?
The English Baccalaureate is when the pupils study and get a pass grade (grade 4 or higher) in English, maths, science, one humanities and one language.
