Core Subjects

These are the core subjects in the curriculum. You are able to choose most of your subjects in Year 10, but everyone will complete at least one qualification in each of the subjects below as part of their compulsory curriculum.

English (Language & Literature)

  • English Language Details
    English Language at GCSE opens doorways to most A-Level subjects, specifically, A-Level courses in English, media and film, sociology and psychology.  Apprenticeship options include marketing assistant.
  • English Literature Details
    Due to the explorative nature of the literature course, pupils develop a wealth of skills which link well with A-Level courses in: media and film, sociology, psychology and law, as well as further studies in English language and literature.

Maths

  • Maths Details
    GCSE Statistics, AS & A Level Mathematics & Statistics, Further Mathematics. A good grade (5 or above) is usually required in order to pursue a career in nursing, teaching or the armed forces. If a grade 5 or above is not achieved in Yr11, pupils will be expected to continue to study Mathematics at college.

Science (Triple & Combined)

  • Triple Science Details
    Pupils will have the opportunity to select Triple Science as an option at Key Stage 4. This means they will be offered the opportunity to study separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics GCSEs, therefore having the opportunity to gain 3 GCSEs in science.
  • Combined Science Details
    Most pupils will study Combined Science. It leads to the award of two GCSE certificates, each made up of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. This qualification is linear. Linear means that students will sit all their exams at the end of the course. There is no coursework involved.
